In the ever-evolving landscape of American healthcare, discussions surrounding profit margins, patient care, and equity have never been more crucial. The Health Equity Collaborative (HEC) is at the forefront of this dialogue, aiming to shed light on the impact of corporatization on diverse communities and promote a more equitable future for all.

The latest white paper from the HEC, titled Putting Profits Over Patients: How the Corporatization of American Healthcare is Impacting Diverse Communities, delves into this pressing issue. Released in January 2024, the paper is a comprehensive exploration of the challenges faced by underserved populations in today’s healthcare system.

Founded as part of MANA Action, a 501c4 not-for-profit organization, the Health Equity Collaborative is a consortium of national, public health, patient advocacy, and multicultural organizations dedicated to combating disparities in healthcare. Through their platform, they aim to engage various audiences, including the general public, healthcare professionals, equity advocates, political readers on Capitol Hill, and more.

In a rapidly changing healthcare landscape, the HEC looks towards the future with a clear vision. Each year, the organization extends its reach, inviting new organizations to join its community focused on the Health Equity Guidelines. In 2023 alone, 21 organizations signed the health equity guidelines letter, highlighting a growing commitment to addressing key issues in healthcare.

The Health Equity Guidelines set forth priorities for the 118th Congress and the Biden Administration, including tackling healthcare costs, enhancing access for vulnerable populations, supporting medical innovations, and improving diversity in clinical trials and data collection. By advocating for these critical issues, the HEC aims to raise awareness through various channels, including media coverage and events.

When asked about their definition of success and entrepreneurship, the HEC emphasized the importance of visibility in reputable publications such as Business Insider, Bloomberg, NY and LA Entrepreneurs, major networks like ABC, CBS, NBC, the Associated Press, and platforms like Medium. Their goal is to disseminate their message widely and spark meaningful conversations around healthcare equity.

In line with their mission to drive awareness, the Health Equity Collaborative recently released a new white paper titled Putting Profits Over Patients: How the Corporatization of American Healthcare is Impacting Diverse Communities. This document serves as a key resource for understanding the challenges faced by marginalized groups within the healthcare system.

The Health Equity Collaborative, under the leadership of Andrew Kovalcin, continues to make strides in their advocacy efforts. With a dedication to promoting equity and combatting disparities, the HEC stands as a beacon of hope for a more inclusive and equitable healthcare future in America.
